Los Angeles Fashion Week

by Ami on 10/18/2011

(Not really a fan of this photo, but love the Urban Outfitters dress with the vintage heels)

I’m actually not going to be around for Los Angeles Fashion Week… I do love this glorious city and no, it’s not because I favor New York’s, it’s because I’m going on an exotic vacation and won’t be around. So, while everyone else is Tweeting & Twit-picing away, I’ll be kickin’ it in Espana noshing on tapas and savoring vino. I encourage you to follow the #LAFW events on Twitter. Of course, I did have to participate in something, so I made time to hang out with Kelsi & the Two Point Oh! LA fashion blogging crew at the organization’s annual pre-lafw party.

While this party has ended, these are still coming up…so check ‘em out! (yes, I’m biased of the 1st event.)

While everyone else was dressed in laid back CA cool pieces, I was clearly gearing up for Halloween a little early… Having chose the line Kittin Hawk for the Fashion Groupie produced blogger shoot each of my three looks had  a dark edge to them and I loved it!

I pulled two dresses and one cape-like top which I paired with a shiny gold H&M skirt. Both dresses didn’t exactly cover the ta-ta’s, so unless I wanted to flash the world, I had to organically incorporate some sleek coverage. I opted for a white bra to pair with the romantic sheer dress which was topped off with a feathered headpiece. For the more avant-garde look, the dress itself was a piece of art, therefore I opted for a simple black bandeau to do the trick. Kittin Hawk’s pieces are so unique…oh and all of the amazing accessories being worn are also from the label including the whimsical ivory headpiece.

Fore more on Kittin Hawk visit their tumblr…I’ll be bringing more looks from the other bloggers & the designers they worked with soon.

A huge thank you to the incredible team…

Styling is totally my thing, but dressing mannequins is a whole other story… This realization came to fruition when I was invited to take part in the 2b Stores (think Bebe’s cool sister) styling competition with other Two Point Oh LA! fashion bloggers. We gathered together at the brand’s Beverly Hill’s flagship destination for a unique challenge.

Each blogette created a look for her mannequin by pulling clothes from the shop. Curating the look was the easy part….tackling a tall mannequin was a whole other comical challenge on its own. I am only 5’1″ after all. Arms were screwed on funny, hands were falling off, but in the end my look came together. The best part was that each look reflected each girl’s personal style. Personally, I don’t have a high fashion budget, but I do have high-end taste. Therefore, I tend to take affordable pieces and wear them in a way that no one would ever guess where they actually came from (or believe when I tell them), so I applied that same theory to this look.

For the challenge, I paired a blue bodycon dress with a white dress shirt (that I later purchased) and added a black leatherette jacket for warmth. I topped the ensemble off by layering an ivory & gold necklace with a shimmery metallic gold necklace for an eye-shot look.

If you like what you see visit 2b Stores’ Facebook page and click on the look to vote for it in the style challenge. You will be automatically entered to win a $250 shopping spree to the store (that $ goes a looonngg way there too!).

2b pieces used: Blue Bodycon dress, Faux Shearling Moto Jacket, Crisscross Peep Toe Bombshell Bootie, Cold Shoulder Top, Gold Necklace & White Necklace.

Good Luck!
