Okay, I so I realize NYFW has past, but I’ve been extra busy and am just now sharing my favorite shows with you. I’m sure you’ve been keeping up with my coverage over on the MyFDBlog, but let me narrow it down to my favorites.
Prabal Gurung
The words “designer crush” are a bit of an understatement. Prabal’s clothes evoke emotion and I covet/desire them all.
Structured simplicity. I feel like I can buy a staple piece from Calvin Klein and it will be just as relevant twenty years from now. Thank you designer Francisco Costa.
Fashion Twitter personality and editor Derek Blasberg recently captured some haute shots at Paris Couture Week for Harper’s Bazaar. I’m absolutely love the candid Karlie Kloss Dior clown image he shot along with Alexia Niedzielski on a rooftop aft the Armani show with the Tour d’Eiffel in the background.
You’ve probably noticed these neat little matrix barcodes popping up on practically everything lately. From business cards to billboards, I easily come across one each day. They’re called QR codes, that stands for “quick reality” and they’re made to be scannable by camera phones equipped with a QR code reading app. The thing is, I’ve almost never been interested in scanning the barcode to reveal the extra information, special discount or whatever gimmick a brand is offering.
I think one of the few times that I actually did scan a QR code was when Calvin Klein put huge ones up on their billboards, so fans basically had to in order to unlock exclusive images and video of CK model, Lara Stone. In true social media fashion the exclusive video was then put on YouTube for everyone to enjoy…
What sucks is that smart phone owners have to add an additional app to their library in order to view any content housed within a QR code. This makes it tedious if you come across something you actually may want to scan, but not having the app or taking the time to download the app may not be worth it. I feel like this is something “neat” and “hip” for brands to utilize, but unless a company already has huge brand loyalty (like Calvin Klein) I don’t think people are taking the effort to scan a QR code….at least no one I know is.
Of course those are just my thoughts because MGH Marketing surveyed 415 smart phone users and found out the following usage results. Of the 49% of people who said they have used a QR code, this is what the breakdown of what they’ve used codes for:
Secure a coupon, deal or discount (53%)
Access additional information (52%)
Enter a sweepstakes (33%)
Sign up to receive more information (26%)
Access video (24%)
Considering these stats reflect what less than half, slightly over 200 users of the pool, it seems it’s about a 50/50 shot that someone’s going to use your QR code if you create on and put it out there.
Of course, usage odds are increased if your code is attached with a sale/discount or in CK’s case–a supermodel.
